I couldn't have guessed where you were taking the story just from looking at the photograph, but it was so fun to see the plot progress! I loved reading your story. I can't help but wonder if the behavior changes in Gertrude were simply the result of a traumatic brain injury of some kind or if they were indicative of something... spookier. Ones that try suicide or alchohol or drugs. They closed down the mental ward so now all the floors get the patients. I watch the heart monitors.

Comment: That was a great long letter! I loved Animal Kingdom when I went a few years back. Out of all of kingdoms Animal Kingdom is the best. I love the Tree of Life. The only thing is, I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't personalised as asked in the swap requirements, and I'd also have liked a summary of some sort tying the individual cards together. Maybe something you could try in your future readings?

Enjoyed your postcard; got a few of them here, too: often visited the Little Red Lighthouse (inspiration for the children's book of the same name) under the George Washington Bridge, and once to the Montauk Lighthouse, at the end of Long Island (one of the eastern most points in the U.S.).

I think my favourite is the Louis XIV card. One of the best things about traditional playing cards is how they are tied to history and folkore, esp. royalty in the french/english/american decks. A card so associated with the French Revolution really excites me even if it probably is a special card game that isn't particularly traditional :P
